7 Reunió d’Arqueologia i Món Antic Tarraco Biennal
In 2012, under the sponsorship of Fundació Privada Mutua Catalana, a non-profit organization from Tarragona, the Tarraco Biennial International Congresses on Archaeology and the Ancient World were born, with the intention of bringing together a group of specialists in Archaeology to debate a theme set by a Scientific Committee formed by the different institutions that work in this field in Tarragona. It is therefore an academic initiative of an international nature that, with a desire for continuity, assigned the leading role to the research and dissemination of the archaeological heritage of the city of Tarragona. The first six meetings have been held every two years, always in the month of November, coinciding with the dates of celebration of obtaining the title of World Heritage for the Roman monuments of Tarragona. In alternate years, the Proceedings of the congress held the previous year have been published. The proceedings of the six congresses already held can be found on the website www.tarracobiennal.com.
Now, in 2025, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Declaration of Tarragona as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, we will celebrate in a special way the 7th Biennial Meeting of Archaeology and the Ancient World Tarraco Biennal “Roman amphitheaters around the Mediterranean” (Tarragona 20 – 22 November 2025). This will be a scientific meeting with an expected 30/40 speakers grouped in 15/20 conferences and an expected attendance of people, academics, professionals and third-cycle university students. The sessions will take place in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Arts of the Rovira i Virgili University. The congress will be organized by the Academic Commission of the Tarraco Biennial Congresses with the participation of the Rovira i Virgili University, the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, the Territorial Archaeology Services of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the History Museum of Tarragona, the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona, the Diocesan Museums of Tarragona and the Royal Tarraco Archaeological Society. We have the sponsorship of the Tarragona City Council, the Fundació Privada Mutua Catalana, the Port of Tarragona and the coordinated project of the MINECO “Amphitheatra Hispaniae” (PID 2023-149285 NB-C42).
Registration for attendees to the congress will be free, formalized on the website www.tarracobiennal.com.
